Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,

Welcome to the 2023 academic year; one that I am looking forward to as we rebuild from the past couple of interrupted years.

Unfortunately, I was unable to be present as students arrived at the College in that first week due to some complications I experienced from two operations I had over the break. However, the time in hospital allowed me to reflect on many things, which sometimes isn’t possible in our daily work and family lives. I was in awe of our health professionals; their calm approach to situations, the difficulties they experienced in their daily work and their persistent approach to all the people in their care. I also missed my family and the community and routines at Marcellin College as we commenced the school year. I am excited about what we have planned for 2023 and our changes to enhance our learning and teaching, student wellbeing and our faith and mission at the College.

As a staff, we gathered nearly a month ago to begin preparations for the 2023 school year. There is always a great deal of anticipation and excitement at this time of the year as we plan and prepare for the events that are to come. At Marcellin College, we are looking forward to sharing some of our new and revised initiatives over the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out for further regular updates in The Eagle as we begin to share our hopes and dreams for 2023. Below you will find some significant changes to how we will communicate and share information with parents and carers through Compass.

We welcomed our Year 7 and 12 students on Wednesday, 1 February with all students returning on the following day. There were House meetings, assemblies, presentations, the return of our Year 7 Commissioning Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, the introduction of Year 7 Parent House Breakfasts and our High Achievers Assembly. This year I will also be leading a Pastoral Group, Redden 1. I am sure there is some nervousness to having the Principal as your Pastoral Leader. However, I am looking forward to building strong relationships with these and all students as we work towards a renewed focused for the College in 2023.

Our College focus this year will be on reviewing and renewing our motto, Virtute ad Altissima – Strive for the highest. Each member of our community will be asked to be their best as they strive to improve, excel and flourish at our College. As parents and carers, our partnership with you will be central to ensuring that every member strives for the highest.

As we head into the third week of the academic year; I would like to wish all students the very best for 2023 and may each and every one of you strive for YOUR highest in all that you do.

May God continue to bless our great community.
