Evan’s Outstanding Performance at the 2025 Pizzey Cup and Australia Cup

Our current 1 Tennis Captain, Evan recently represented Victoria with distinction in two prestigious national tennis events: the Australia Cup and the Pizzey Cup. His performance across both tournaments was nothing short of outstanding, culminating in individual success and significant team achievement.

In the team event, the Pizzey Cup, Evan played in the number one position for Victoria. Each day, he faced off against the top players from other states in both singles and doubles. Despite competing against the strongest talent from across the country, Evan lost only one match—ironically, to the same NSW player he would later defeat in the Australia Cup. This was also Victoria’s sole loss of the tournament, and thanks in no small part to Evan’s consistency and leadership, the Victorian team finished second overall—a remarkable improvement, and the team’s best result in over a decade.

In the Australia Cup, an elite knockout tournament featuring 56 of the nation’s top players (eight from each of the competing states), Evan entered as the second seed. After a first-round bye, he displayed remarkable resilience and composure, winning five consecutive matches to claim the title. Notably, he overcame the top-seeded player from New South Wales in the semi-final—a player who had defeated him earlier in the week. In a hard-fought final, Evan triumphed 6-3, 7-5 to become the first Victorian in over 15 years to lift the Australia Cup shield. It was a historic moment, and Evan accepted it with quiet pride, preferring to celebrate the broader significance for Victorian tennis rather than focus on personal accolades.

Evan’s efforts did not go unnoticed. At the conclusion of the tournament, he was named in the School Sport Australia (SSA) All-Australian team, an honour awarded to the top ten performing players (boys and girls) across the week.

While Evan’s results speak for themselves, it is his humility, sportsmanship, and team-first mindset that truly set him apart. He continues to represent his state and school with pride and maturity, and his achievements are a testament not only to his talent but to his work ethic and character.
