Principal's Update 29 May 2026
Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,
Over the past week, I have found myself reflecting deeply on the importance of hope and the profound difference it can make in people’s lives.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a session at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Deer Park, where my daughter is currently undertaking part of her Master's in Criminology internship through RMIT University’s Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program. The program brings incarcerated women together with university students to study alongside one another, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue and human connection.
It was a confronting and humbling experience. Listening to stories and witnessing the reality of how quickly life circumstances can change was a powerful reminder that hope is never something we should take for granted. It also reinforced how fortunate many of our young people are in the opportunities, support and education available to them.
As a Catholic Marist College, one of our greatest responsibilities is to ensure our students understand both their dignity and their capacity to positively influence the world around them. In uncertain times, hope, compassion and strong values matter more than ever.
Full of Grace in a Changing World
On Friday, our staff participated in a Professional Learning Day led by Marist Schools Australia, centred on this year’s theme: “Full of Grace — Transform the World with God’s Love.”
This was followed by a thought-provoking presentation exploring Artificial Intelligence and Transhumanism and the implications these developments may hold for education, society and people of faith. While technology continues to advance rapidly, it is important that we remain grounded in our Catholic and Marist identity and help our young people navigate these changes with wisdom, discernment and hope.
Pope Leo XIV has recently spoken about the importance of ensuring that technological advancement never comes at the expense of human dignity. His message serves as an important reminder that compassion, ethics and humanity must remain at the centre of progress and innovation.
Performing Arts
This fortnight has been a wonderful celebration of the talent, creativity and collaboration within our Performing Arts community.
Our students recently took to the stage in Midnight: The Cinderella Musical, performed in partnership with Our Lady of Mercy College. The production was a wonderful example of two school communities coming together in a spirit of collaboration, creativity and joy. The dedication of the students, staff and families involved was evident in every performance, and all students involved should feel immensely proud of what they achieved together.
On Tuesday evening, we also held our Autumn Classical Concert, which showcased the extraordinary musical talents of our students through a range of individual and ensemble performances. The evening highlighted both the skill and passion of our performers and was a wonderful celebration of music at Marcellin College.
I would particularly like to acknowledge and thank Ms Natalie Carger, Mr Tim Webster and all members of our Music staff for their magnificent work in supporting and developing our young musicians. Their dedication continues to provide outstanding opportunities for our students to flourish in the Performing Arts.

Year 12 Formal
Last Thursday evening saw our Year 12 students gather for their Formal - a significant milestone in their final year at the College. It was wonderful to see the students celebrate the occasion with such maturity, gratitude and joy.
The evening reflected the strong sense of community and friendship that has developed across their time at Marcellin. Our students represented themselves and their families with pride and I thank all staff and families who helped make the evening such a memorable celebration.

As we move towards the end of another busy and rewarding week, there is much for our community to be hopeful for. Whether through learning, faith, friendship, music, performance or shared experiences, our students continue to remind us of the importance of connection, creativity and joy.
In a world that can often feel uncertain and fast-moving, it is these moments - students supporting one another, expressing themselves through the arts, celebrating milestones together and striving to make a positive difference - that give us confidence and hope for the future.
May we continue to be people who are, in the words of this year’s Marist theme, “Full of Grace — Transforming the World with God’s Love.”
