Introducing the 1st Volleyball Captain
1st Volleyball Captain
Marcellin College is proud to introduce Lachlan as our Volleyball Captain for 2025. A dedicated student from Augustine House, Lachlan has been a member of the College community since joining us from Holy Spirit Primary School in Thornbury.
Lachlan exemplifies the balance between academics and sport. Currently accelerating into Unit 3&4 Maths Methods, he also previously represented Marcellin in the Big Band, performing at the prestigious Generations In Jazz Music Festival in Mount Gambier. His disciplined approach to study—ensuring at least two hours of homework each night, even after training—demonstrates his commitment to both personal growth and team success.
Lachlan’s volleyball career began at Marcellin in Year 7, and by Year 9, he had earned his place on the 1st team. His proudest moment so far? Representing the College at the All Schools Cup last year. Beyond school, Lachlan plays for Yarra Ranges Volleyball Club, competing in the Open Men’s Reserves 2 and Premier League Division 2 teams, while also coaching the Under 17s Division 1 squad. He’s also active in beach volleyball with VBVA, training alongside some of Victoria’s top-ranked athletes.
As Captain, Lachlan is eager to work with Mr Benson and new coach Fionn Doyle to rebuild and elevate the Marcellin Volleyball program. “We’ve got some very promising newcomers,” he says, “and I’m excited to see how far we can take it this year.” His goal is to foster a positive and connected culture, challenge outdated perceptions of volleyball, and inspire more students to get involved. A key milestone ahead: competing in the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
Lachlan’s advice to younger students is simple but powerful: “The joy of doing something is the foundation of becoming skilled at it. If you enjoy what you’re doing, stick with it. The grind feels much more bearable if you’re having fun.”
We congratulate Lachlan on his leadership and look forward to an exciting year ahead for Marcellin Volleyball!
