Principal's Update 31 October 2025

Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,

There is something about this time of year that just feels lighter. The days are brighter, the air is warming and there is a collective sense that the year’s end is in sight. Perhaps it is the sunshine or perhaps it is the wag of a little tail that has brightened my own days recently. Yes, I have a new puppy!

I had forgotten just how much work goes into raising a puppy. Between the chewed shoes, the 6 a.m. wake-up calls and the endless supply of treats that mysteriously disappear, I have found myself googling “how to stop puppy biting” more times than I care to admit. I have joined a few puppy training forums and am preparing to attend puppy school … where, let’s be honest, the humans are the ones really being trained.

The experience has reminded me just how important consistency, patience and positive reinforcement are in any form of learning, whether for puppies or people. Growth takes time. It thrives when there are clear boundaries, encouragement and a safe environment in which to make mistakes. It is a lovely (and sometimes exhausting) reminder of what our teachers do every day with our students: guiding them, setting clear expectations and celebrating the small steps forward.

2026 Student Leaders
We recently announced the appointment of our 2026 College Captains: Ben, Angus and Gabriel. These young men have shown integrity, humility and a deep love for our Marcellin College community. They will carry the hopes and spirit of our students into the year ahead. In the coming days, we will publish the full list of Student Leaders across the College. We congratulate all who put themselves forward. Leadership is an act of courage and service and it begins not with position, but with a willingness to contribute to something for the benefit of others.

Class of 2025
Last week we gathered for our Year 12 Valedictory Mass and Dinner. It was a fitting farewell to the Class of 2025. It was a time to reflect on their journey, celebrate their achievements and give thanks for the friendships and memories that will endure long after they leave our gates. As they now turn their focus to their VCAA examinations, we wish them calm minds, steady hearts and the confidence that they are ready. They carry with them our blessings and our belief in their potential.

This week also saw the beginning of VCAA exams for students studying Unit 3 and 4 subjects. This period is an important time of focus and perseverance, and we keep all our senior students in our prayers as they strive to do their best.

MSA Gathering
Finally, I recently attended a Marist Schools Australia Principals’ Meeting, where leaders from across the country gathered to share insights and strengthen our shared mission. These gatherings are always a reminder that, while each school has its own story, we are united by the same Marist HEART - one that beats with Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work and In the Way of Mary - and a commitment to forming good young people who will make a difference in the world.

As we head into the final weeks of Term 4, may we continue to find joy in the small things: the sunshine, the wag of a tail and the moments of connection that make our community so special.

God Bless,

Marco Di Cesare
