Introducing Cross Country Co-Captain Ben
Cross-Country Co‑Captain, Ben
Congratulations, Ben named as Co‑Captain of the Cross Country team. A member of Faulkner House, Ben has earned this leadership role through his consistency, resilience and strong commitment to both his teammates and the traditions of Marcellin sport.
Ben joined Marcellin College from Templestowe Valley Primary School and has been involved in the sporting program since Year 7. From his first year, he represented the College in Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming, debuting in the 1st Team in all three sports during 2021. His willingness to compete at the highest level from an early age has been a hallmark of his time at the College.
One of Ben’s most memorable team achievements came in Year 7, when the Cross Country squad claimed Marcellin’s 21st premiership by just one point — the closest premiership result in the program’s history. Individually, Ben has also enjoyed outstanding success at AGSV level, winning gold medals in the 800m and 1500m events across multiple seasons. These performances highlight both his endurance and ability to perform when it matters most.
Away from competition, Ben demonstrates impressive discipline in balancing training and academics. When injury‑free, he trains up to six times per week and regularly includes strength and conditioning sessions. Alongside this demanding schedule, he maintains consistent study habits, working each night and on weekends. His commitment to learning is reflected in his decision to accelerate Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods and Applied Computing in Year 11.
Ben has a proud family connection to Marcellin College, with his older brother James graduating in 2011. This connection has helped shape Ben’s appreciation for the College’s values and the importance of contributing positively to the programs that have given him so much.
As Co‑Captain, Ben is focused on being a strong role model, particularly for younger students entering the Cross Country program. Even while managing injury, he remains determined to support his teammates and be visible through his actions. His vision is centred on building a culture that is meaningful, supportive and lasting within one of the school’s most prestigious sporting programs.
Ben encourages junior students to get involved in sport, highlighting its ability to build fitness, friendships and lifelong habits of discipline. He believes sport plays a vital role in helping students manage challenges and maintain balance throughout their lives.
Marcellin College congratulates Ben on his appointment as 1st Team Cross Country Co‑Captain and looks forward to the leadership, dedication and pride he will continue to bring to the program throughout the year
