Introducing the 2026 Sports Captain
Introducing Our 2026 Marcellin Sports Captain
Name: Nico D’Odorico
House: Marlhes
Pastoral Group: Marlhes S03 – Mr Canning
Primary School: St Clement of Rome Primary School
Marcellin College is proud to introduce Nico D’Odorico as the 2026 Sports Captain. A dedicated and passionate leader, Nico brings an unwavering commitment to participation, sportsmanship and community spirit.
Reflecting on his appointment, Nico says he feels “extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to be the Sports Captain of this incredible school – it has always been a goal of mine.” His vision as Captain centres on encouraging students from all year levels to get involved in Marcellin’s wide range of sporting opportunities and ensuring the College is respected not just for its success, but for the way its students conduct themselves on and off the field.
“I want to drive an incredible sporting movement and culture within the school,” Nico explains. “I hope to see students supporting one another at every opportunity and building a tight-knit community where everyone feels involved.”
A proud Marcellin sportsman, Nico has represented the College in football, basketball, athletics, water polo, volleyball and golf during his five years at the school. His main focus, however, has always been football. He made his First XVIII debut in Year 10 during Round 1 of the 2024 season and has been a consistent presence ever since.
One of Nico’s most memorable moments came during that debut match, played at home on the John Bray Oval. “I remember walking down onto the ground for the warm-up, my legs were shaking with nerves and excitement while the cheers from the boys up on the hill echoed around the grounds,” he recalls. “Even though we didn’t win, it’s a moment I’ll never forget and a perfect example of Marcellin’s incredible sporting culture and community.”
Balancing his leadership duties, training schedule, and academic work requires discipline. Nico manages his week by planning ahead and maintaining focus on both his VCE studies – including accelerated Units 3&4 Physical Education - and his sporting commitments.
Outside of Marcellin, Nico plays football for Macleod Junior Football Club in the YJFL’s Division 1 Youth Boys competition. His team, which includes several fellow Marcellin students, reflects the strong bonds and brotherhood shared among Marcellin athletes.
Nico credits his parents as the biggest influence on his sporting journey. “They got me into sport from an early age and have always supported me – driving me to training, games, and the gym whenever I’ve needed. Their encouragement has meant the world to me.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Nico is excited to engage with the entire Marcellin sporting community. “I’m most looking forward to getting around to all of Marcellin’s talented students, hearing their ideas, and working with Mr Reynolds, Mr Faelis, and the rest of the school’s leadership team to make Marcellin an even better place – on and off the field.”
