Principal's Update 20 February 2026

Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,

The new school year has begun with energy and purpose. In recent weeks I have attended sporting fixtures, Esports and Game Changer sessions, parent morning teas and information evenings, alongside Board, Advisory and Marist Schools Australia (MSA) meetings, as well as visits to several of our feeder primary schools.

In the midst of this activity, we remain clear about our core purpose: teaching and learning strongly supported by wellbeing. Everything we do must strengthen student outcomes. Our aim is that each boy strives to be 10% braver and 10% better - embracing challenge, persisting with effort and taking pride in growth.

Student Leadership
Our Student Leadership Breakfast with parents was a wonderful celebration of those who have accepted leadership roles for 2026. Past student leaders shared insights into servant leadership, and our current leaders articulated their hopes and aspirations for the year ahead through a thoughtful consultation process.

Their commitment to shaping a positive College culture is encouraging and we look forward to the example they will set.

NAPLAN
Year 7 and Year 9 students have commenced preparations for NAPLAN, which will again be completed online. We have ensured that students are technically prepared and confident with the format.

While NAPLAN provides useful data, we remind students that it is simply one moment in their learning journey. Calm preparation and doing their best is what matters most.

Year 7 Welcome
Our Year 7 Welcome BBQ and Information Evening was extremely well attended. It was a valuable opportunity for families to reconnect with Pastoral Leaders and staff and to build relationships early in the year.

Thank you to our parents for your presence and to our staff for their organisation. I am sure many families left with a clearer understanding of camps, routines and the busy year ahead!

VCE Information Evening
It was pleasing to see strong attendance at our VCE Information Evening. As students move through their senior years, partnership between home and school becomes increasingly important.

Marcellin College is proud to offer a range of pathways so that every student can achieve personal success. VCE can be challenging, and we encourage families to remain in close contact with staff so that we continue to work together in supporting each young man.

Sustainability
We continue to work with an external organisation to strengthen our sustainability goals, building on the efforts of our Student Sustainability Captains over many years.

Alongside reducing resource use, our focus this year will include care for our environment, particularly litter. Our College Captains have communicated clear expectations to students, and purposeful littering will be addressed. Respect for our environment reflects respect for one another, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this message.

Family Partnerships
Ms Christina Cammarano will lead Family Partnerships at the College this year. She is enthusiastic about strengthening parent engagement and will communicate regularly while seeking your insights and feedback.

I encourage all families to engage actively. Our partnership is central to the success of our students.

Please reach out to Christina if you have any questions or suggestions for topics or areas you would like to learn more about.

A Season of Renewal
As we approach Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, we are reminded that this season is about far more than simply giving something up. Lent invites us into renewal, a time to pause, reflect and consider who we are becoming.

For our young men, it is an opportunity to grow in humility, resilience and compassion. It calls them to examine how they treat others, how they approach their learning and how they contribute to the community around them. Small daily choices: to act with integrity, to show kindness, to persevere, shape character over time.

For all of us, Lent offers the chance to realign ourselves with what truly matters: faith, relationships and service. In the Marist tradition, we walk this journey together, trusting that renewal begins not in grand gestures, but in faithful, consistent action.

May this Lenten season be one of reflection, growth and quiet courage for our community.

God bless,

Marco Di Cesare
