Acting Principal's Update 1 May 2026
Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,
As we begin a new term, it has been wonderful to see the College come alive once again with a renewed sense of energy and purpose. Students have returned refreshed, reconnecting with one another and embracing the opportunities for learning that lie ahead. There is a tangible sense of optimism across the campus, and a readiness to make the most of the term before us.
This fresh beginning has been accompanied by a significant moment of reflection for our community. Last week, we gathered to commemorate ANZAC Day, pausing together in a spirit of reverence to honour the courage, endurance and mateship shown by those who have served our nation. Our ceremony not only invited us to remember these values, but also to recognise and celebrate them within our own community. I congratulate our ANZAC Award recipients, Year 12 student Gabriel Smith and Year 10 student Angus Buchan, who exemplify courage, determination, leadership and mateship in their daily lives.
In reflecting on these qualities, I reminded students of the Principal’s challenge to be 10% braver. Inspired by the example of the ANZACs, this is a call for each of us to show courage in our learning, to persevere through challenge, and to stand in support of one another.
As a Catholic community, we are called to see these values through the lens of our faith. Courage, endurance and compassion are not only admirable qualities; they reflect the example of Christ in our daily lives. May we continue to encourage our students to grow in faith and character, striving each day to be just a little braver in all that they do.
Campus Safety Improvements
You may recall that in the previous newsletter, our Principal outlined the installation of new boom gates at key entry points to the College. These gates have now been installed at the main entrance and near the Functions Room, with final works being completed.
Once operational, vehicle access through the College grounds during school hours will be restricted, and there will be no vehicle access to the campus from Sandra Street while students are on-site. These changes are an important step in enhancing the safety of our environment. We ask for your understanding and support as we move towards full implementation of these measures.
Key Academic Milestones This Term
Looking ahead,Term 2 is a significant academic period, particularly for our senior students. Mid-year examinations, the General Achievement Test (GAT), and the subject selection process for 2027 will all take place in the coming weeks.
The GAT is a major undertaking for the College, involving more than 300 students. To ensure appropriate exam conditions and sufficient space, the College will operate a work-from-home day for all students except those Year 12 students and relevant Year 11 students required to sit the GAT.
This day will also provide a valuable opportunity for our Year 9 and 10 students and their families to engage in the subject selection process. Families are invited to attend the College to meet with Pastoral Leaders and discuss pathways and options for 2027. We strongly encourage students and parents to take advantage of this time to make informed decisions about future learning.
May God bless our community as we journey through the term ahead with courage and faith.
