Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,
Today Australia recognises World Teachers’ Day. We are fortunate to have dedicated staff who care about our young people and their learning. We thank all people in education for the work that they do.
Last Friday we celebrated our Year 12 Valedictory liturgy, awards ceremony and dinner at Melbourne Park. It was an evening where our Year 12 students were able to reflect on their six years at Marcellin College surrounded by their families and peers. Congratulations to all our Year 12 students on successfully completing their secondary education and also to those students who were both nominated and recipients of our Valedictory Awards. View the 2022 Valedictory Awards nominees and winners here, and the gallery of images for the evening here.
Rain, some more rain and then a little bit more. I have so often heard the saying, ‘lovely weather for ducks’. The picture below of our ovals underwater due to the recent rain is one we hope not to see too often. Thank you to our staff, students and families for their cooperation over the last two week as we dealt with the closure of Bulleen Road and the rising waters. We keep the many communities who are affected by the floods in our prayers.
Examination Period
We are well into our examination period for Year 12 students, with other year levels soon to start their exams. I encourage all parents and carers to speak to their children about how they are planning for the upcoming exams. I have just finished a lesson with my Year 9 students and we went over good exam habits and how to best prepare for them. We know that boys don’t always organise themselves well, so as parents and carers, it is important we are involved in and encourage their learning and organisational development.
Placidus Refurbishment
The refurbishment of the Placidus Centre is going well with the new space taking shape – the builders have been working hard to keep to their deadline. I am excited at what this new area will do for supporting our students. A couple of images have been shared here.
Marist News
The Province of Australia, which brought together the former Melbourne and Sydney provinces on 8 December 2012 will come to term 8 December 2022, when the new Province of Star of the Sea will be born. Our own Br Peter Carrol will lead Marists through this change. Star of the Sea province will encompass: Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Aotearoa – New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Kiribati, Timor-Leste and Cambodia. We keep all Marists across the Pacific in our prayers as we embark on a new journey together.
God of love,
Your Spirit ignited the heart of Saint Marcellin Champagnat
with a burning passion for God
and deep compassion for all people.
You called him and the early Marists
to bring this message of God’s tender and all-embracing love to the young, especially those most in need.
Generations have been inspired
by his example of humility, simplicity
and audacious courage to form young people to be good Christians and good citizens.
We pray with Mary,
our Good Mother and guide
that you continue to bless us
in our new endeavour together.
May our commitment renew the whole Church and our new Province
in its mission to make Jesus Christ known and loved, in Mary’s way.
Amen.
