Principal's Blog

Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,

Last weekend saw me attending the third Australian Marist Association Assembly. It was an opportunity for members of the Marist Association of St Marcellin Champagnat to come together to dialogue, discern and connect together as Marists. I have had a long association with the Marists – from my early days as a student in a Marist school, through to my involvement in many of the ministries and experiences that they offered. There were some Brothers who were keen for us to have a greater say in how we could collaborate on the future of the Marists together. Many years ago now I was part of a lay association group – this was a group that looked at the involvement of lay people in the continuing mission to “make Jesus known and loved”. It was the initial discussion around how we saw the evolution in Marist life and mission in Australia. We must always look at how we remain a ‘sign for the times’, today and into the future.

Staff have been busy preparing for these last weeks of the term. Last Monday we spent some time looking at what makes our College so special. With an eye to the future, we have begun to work on our hopes and dreams for 2023 and beyond. I have spent a fair amount of time listening and discerning with different groups. My thanks to those parents who have been able to attend the Morning Tea with the Principal sessions – these have given me a greater insight into what we must strive to hold on to as we begin to see a light at the end of the pandemic tunnel.

Grade 5 Interviews
My thanks to all the staff and parents who have attended the College this last fortnight for our Grade 5 enrolment interviews. I enjoy listening to each student’s story – their hopes and dreams for their secondary school years. Their energy and passion is always a reminder of the gift that school staff are given as we shape young minds. Please contact the College Registrar as soon as possible if you have missed our enrolment period for Year 7 in 2024.

2023 Student Leadership Options
This week saw our College hosting a Student Leadership preparation day. It was an opportunity for our younger students to hear and learn about leadership in a school. My thanks to Mr Tomada and Mr Gentile for their work with our current and potential leaders. There was a sense of optimism in the room as students heard from our guest speaker while also sharing their own stories with each other. Please speak to your son about considering themselves for a student leadership position in the College.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences
A reminder that Parent-Teacher-Student (PTS) conferences are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 8 September (2pm – 9pm) and Tuesday, 13 September (2pm – 9pm). Details on how to make bookings are in the news section of MyMC.

Wishing all our fathers and significant males in our Marcellin community a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday.

St Marcellin Champagnat, Pray for us
Mary, Our Good Mother, Pray for us
And let us always remember, To pray for one another
